2026-08-14 – Stem Repairs

Despite the contining heat, work has been progressing on the stem and planking repairs, just slowly.

The Sapele block I laminated together was carefully shaped into something that is approximately the correct shape.I say approximately since I have deliberately made is just a little too big. The intention is to sand it down to the correct shape once the stem has been rebuilt.

The dowels are there to ensure that the block is positioned correctly each time it is removed for shaping and then replaced.

So far, so good.

I did make a mistake in the construction and had to add a 10mm piece at one end and a smaller shim on the side.

This is the state of the stem as of this evening. All the required pieces have now been epoxied in place,

Copper nails have been used both as locating pins and clamps to hold the pieces in position whilst the epoxy cures.

The next task will be to shape the new stem so that the new hull can be constructed.

Time for a cup of tea.
