2026-11-07 – Odds and Ends

Things are coming together quite nicely now with just a few odds and ends to complete inside the hull before moving to the outside.

First things first, I checked that the sailing top of the centerplate case still fitted and, as you can see, it does. Another task crossed off the list.

The longer eye bolt arrived in the post this morning and I was able to complete the tie-down for the ship’s battery.

I also rigged the centerplate uphaul temporarily. The rope needs to be washed or replaced as it is very stiff and I will have to check over the blocks as well. They are quite stiff also but I don’t know if that is due to salt, corrosion or just wear. Another thing to add to the task list but one that doesn’t need to be done in situ.

There were two reasons for rigging the uphaul. This first was to position the eye bolt, now fitted and bedded in sealant.

The second was to correctly position the jamming cleat on the top of the centerplate case as it is slightly offset, as shown. Now that is done I can de-rig the uphaul for further work and the top of the case can be removed, varnished and then put back in place with some sealant.

Time for a cup of tea.

The last task of the day, for Shoal Waters anyway, was the sole bearers for the port side of the cabin.

This is the result. As before, no screws, just sealant and lots to allow for correct seating before the sealant cured.

Time for a cup of tea.
