I took a late and slightly longer lunch break than normal and worked on getting the cockpit sorted out.

The task is to get the two forward bottom boards supported where the previous supports were cut away. Here you can see the problem.

I made pencil marks where the top of the boards should lie, then measured the thickness of the boards at those points. Then I cut a piece of scrap plywood to the same thickness as the boards and made another set of marks below the first to show where the supports need to lie.

I don’t have any more Sapele left to finish this task, but I do have some Cedar that is rot resistant and used that. I cut two pieces the correct width and height and too long.

One end of each piece was cut to the correct angle, more or less, and the feather edge chopped of to ensure as close a fit as possible.

These pieces were dry fit and the correct length marked as well as the required profile of the aft end where the aft bottom board lies.

The battens were then cut to length and shaped and dry fit once again.

I also checked that the aft board still fitted correctly.

The two pieces were glued and screwed into place using the Sikaflex and stainless screws.

Once that had been carried out, I made a smaller piece around the aft of the centerplate case block as shown.
I used plenty of sealant and the squeeze out will be removed carefully once the sealant has cured.
Time for a cup of tea.
